Storage Bin for the Recreational Goods Sector
A customer in the recreational goods sector needed a company with the experience and expertise to create a custom mold for a water jet product within a tight deadline. With over 20 years of mold making experience, our services at ProCIM were commissioned to produce a reaction injection mold (RIM) for a multipurpose storage bin. A customer supplied 3D CAD model was used as the basis for our design, which was refined with Cimatron CAD software and subsequently manufactured utilizing an on-site Takumi Seiki CNC machining center. The tightest tolerances of 0.001" were met across the molding surface, with a 0.0005" tolerance achieved on sealing surfaces. Post machining, the mold was expertly fit and assembled, verifying all components. The finished mold was thoroughly inspected employing the latest visual and dimensional methods and equipment including CMM portable Faro arm and other standard instruments.
Measurements of the completed closed mold were 15-1/2" x 16" x 26". The mold exhibited a polished and textured finish as requested. In order to ease the production process, the final mold was delivered on a stand with a counter balance. The storage bin is molded from polyurethane, with part dimensions of 12-5/8" x 13-1/2" x 22-3/4". Turnaround time for this custom RIM mold was 6 weeks, and it is used to produce 3500 pieces per year.
