Radiation Measurement Device for the Consumer Products Industry

A client in the consumer products industry approached us at ProCIM with a unique assignment. Their electronic radiation measurement device needed a custom designed plastic housing, silicone boot, and rubber aluminum handle. Following an indepth consultation with the customer, our engineers designed the part components along with the corresponding molds. State-of-the-art Cimatron software was used to design and refine the concepts to satisfaction.

The molds were machined from a selection of P20 steel, 4140 HT steel, or Aluminum 6160 – T6, chosen based on the type of materials to be processed by the tool. Our advanced Daewoo equipment was employed for the precision machining, holding tight tolerances throughout manufacturing. The machined molds were heat treated and polished to achieve the desired texture, and the molds assembled and fit. Utilizing ABS plastic, aluminum, rubber, and silicon, the individual component parts were fabricated and partially assembled in-house. A variety of visual and dimensional inspections were performed to verify accuracy and quality, employing portable Faro arm CMM equipment and other standard measurement instruments.

Dimensions of the completed assembly were 4" x 6-1/4" x 8-1/4". Turnaround time for this project was 8 weeks, meeting the expected timeframe and customer criteria. Annual production levels for this part are approximately 500 sets. At ProCIM we are proud to use our experience and selection of in house equipment to bring our client ideas to fruition.
